New Year - Same You

Image
It's time for my New Year's Resolution Rant - buckle up - truth is what trainers and coaches deliver! I'm not posting a whole "New Year - New You" series - or checking in on Resolutions. I'm not diminishing having goals - in fact - goals are critical - and they have to be backed up with NEW Actions. The hard truth is - you are the same person today that you were on Friday. January 1st was in fact just a Saturday. Nothing happened with the arrival 2022 that magically transformed your nutrition, weight loss, smoking, exercise, or relationship patterns. So while the beginning of a new calendar year provides and opportunity to reflect on the year that is completing, examining what worked and didn't work, and creating goals for the year that lies ahead, all of that work will fall flat if you haven't created NEW ACTIONS to take to fulfil on your goals. NEW actions refer to things you haven't done before - to generate results you haven't genera...

New Year - Same You

New Year - Same You Happy New Year Warriors! Today, I want to get real for a few minutes - and this might be a little harsh - but that's what I'm here for. I'm not posting a whole "New Year - New You" series - or checking in on Resolutions. I'm not diminishing having goals - in fact - goals are critical - and they have to be backed up with NEW Actions. The hard truth is - you are the same person today that you were on Thursday. January 1st was in fact just a Friday. Nothing happened with the arrival 2021 that magically transformed your nutrition, weight loss, smoking, exercise, or relationship habits. So while the beginning of a new calendar year provides and opportunity to reflect on the year that is completing, examining what worked and didn't work, and creating goals for the year that lies ahead, all of that work will fall flat if you haven't created NEW ACTIONS to take to fulfil on your goals. Context is Decisive

Image
Context is Decisive Context is decisive.  Your mindset and mental chatter (your created context) creates the world that you experience every day.  The good news is that you get to create your context - and that you are always creating your context.  And the bad news is that oftentimes, we are not consciously generating our an empowered context to live inside. Consider a weight loss goal.  What is your context around losing weight?  Does this journey occur as hard, depriving yourself, feeling hungry, being different from others?  Take a few moments to look at what comes up for you?  Maybe you're light up by the journey - the opportunity to be more active as you drop the weight, discovering new healthy foods, sharing your journey with friends and contributing to their health and wellbeing. Consider that all of those things are true - and none of them are true at the same time.  You get to create your context - and it will drive your exper...

Pandemic Spending Analysis

Image
Pandemic Spending Analysis - What do you really need?  Across the country, everyone has now been living with some form of restrictions for a month or more now.  While restrictions will start to ease off soon in some areas, we have an opportunity to reflect and consider how the pandemic impacted our spending habits - and what (if any) impact that had on our daily lives.  My credit card bill comes in a record low number of pages - which is a good thing with the lower income sources - and it's an opportunity to reflect on what I've missed.  I've been spending on gas - for trips back and forth to pick-up the kids.  And on groceries - but about one bill every two weeks, rather than multiple trips that add additional costs and unneeded items to the bill.  Beyond that... my online training software, cell phone and internet costs.  I haven't been able to order anything from Amazon that would be delivered in less than a month - and discovered if I have ...

Mind-Body Connection 101

Image
Our bodies respond to the ways we think, feel, and act.  It would be great if our thoughts were totally disconnected from our physical health - and unfortunately, that just isn't true. Additional information becomes available each month about the connections between mind and body.  As an example, when we are stressed, anxious, or upset, our bodies react in ways that tell us something isn't right.  That might look like high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, even head-aches and sleeplessness.  Generally, you want to be on the look out for events in your life that trigger strong feelings - particularly of sadness, stress or anxiety. Things might include:  - being laid off from your job  - having a child leave (or return) home  - dealing with the death of a loved one  - getting married (or divorced)   - suffering an illness or injury   - getting a job promotion  - experience money problems   - moving to...

Happy Earth Day!

Image
Happy Earth Day - on the 50th year of this special day! This post kicks off the beginning of a new series and a new way of life for me.  The Covid-19 pandemic has created an opportunity for me to play with the concept of living Simply. With lots of free time - and nothing to shop for - I've been evaluating how I've spent my life so far and what I want to create going forward.  This started as creating objectives for my life and my commitment inside the health & fitness space.  I've discovered I've been operating in a very unfocused way for years - always striving after or chasing something.  This has also involved taking stock of the "stuff" I've accumulated over the years.  I've started cleaning out and getting things pared down to the essentials.  I've spent years amassing stuff that I didn't really need (or in some cases even want) and I'm discovering there's an impact of all the "having" on my quality of life a...

Winners or Losers?

Image
Winners or Losers?  Tonight - on playing the game of life!  We are born into society constructed games that we live and play inside without even being aware of.    We’re conditioned into pursuing material possessions and titles - playing and chasing to fit in. Playing to win at life.   Sometimes we feel we are losing the game - feel disempowered, unfulfilled, or dissatisfied.  We actually choose to forget that we have a choice.    That we have chosen the game that runs our lives.   So - go for “Chooser” - actively examine the whole game of life you are playing.    Choose your path. Choose your game.    Don’t get sucked into someone else’s game.    Choose - and there is no win or lose!  #HealthyLivingWarrior #GayPersonalTrainer #GayTrainer #PersonalTrainer #Trainer #PersonalTraining #Training #OnlinePersonalTraining #Fitness #FitnessGoals #WarriorsWhy #Goals #BigPicture #Focus #HeadUp #LifePurpose #...

First Snow - 2019

Image
November 7 ... first snow for 2019 in Toronto!  A mix of thoughts and emotions flow through the Warrior Mindset today!  From the “before I’m awake” o’clock phone call from my super excited daughter (whose now 13 .. ???) over Kitchener way - where apparently it’s deeper and “the snow plow has gone by once already!!”  To watching the dog step through it ... not sure if it’s toxic or fun ... finally settling on fun  To the - thank God I cut the grass yesterday (which I’d been putting off for about a month)  To - ok - how long until spring again (by the way - only 133 days, 14 hours and 6 minutes)  To - ugh - drivers will all have forgotten how to drive  To - Grrrrr - it’s not deep enough to play in with the Jeep  So I sit with my coffee this morning - looking out at the falling snow - and reflection on the absurdity of First Snow thoughts at all.  It happens every year here in this part of the world.  And we...

On the EDGE... Fear of Confronting Cause

Image
This post is a flash back to October 2018 and our Team activity to take on our Fear of Confronting Cause!!! What is it that stops you in life?  In your healthy living goals - or your work - or your relationships?  What do you want to do that you don't actually do? What would be available in your life if you took that action?  Choose something outside your comfort zone daily to keep pushing yourself forward... Don't let your Fear of Confronting Cause get between you and what you want for your life! Enjoy the video of our little journey out on the "edge" - 1,168 feet, or 116 stories above Toronto! This was a truly exhilarating experience - and a whole new way to see my city! We all had a blast - and like everything in life... once you actually take it on... wasn't actually that scary at all! I got really present to how much we make up the story in our minds about things - not scary - just a blast! Get out there and cause your life today! CJ...

Healthy Living Warrior Wellness Dimensions

Image
It is normal for us to collapse Healthy Living with Body Image. In fact, human beings are mentally and socially programmed to compare visual presentations to an ideal.   Mathematically, the brain is predisposed to find certain patterns & symmetries more pleasing to the eye.   We do it with everything - from fruit at the grocery store to bodies at the bar – comparing what’s in front of us to a mental picture of an “ideal”. The Vitruvian Man, by Leonardo da Vinci, depicts the “ideal human body proportions”, based on geometry described by an ancient (we’re taking 20-30 BC sort of ancient here) Roman architect – Vitruvius.   Vitruvian Theory states that an architect should focus on three central themes when preparing a design. Firmitas (strength)             Utilitas (functionality)            Venustas (beauty) Theory can be a great tool to help understand things – AND – we can get so c...
