Mind-Body Connection 101
Our bodies respond to the ways we think, feel, and act. It would be great if our thoughts were totally disconnected from our physical health - and unfortunately, that just isn't true.
Additional information becomes available each month about the connections between mind and body. As an example, when we are stressed, anxious, or upset, our bodies react in ways that tell us something isn't right. That might look like high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, even head-aches and sleeplessness.
Generally, you want to be on the look out for events in your life that trigger strong feelings - particularly of sadness, stress or anxiety. Things might include:
- being laid off from your job
- having a child leave (or return) home
- dealing with the death of a loved one
- getting married (or divorced)
- suffering an illness or injury
- getting a job promotion
- experience money problems
- moving to a new home
- having (or adopting) a baby
Just a reminder - sometimes, even "good" or "wanted" changes can bring on anxiety and impact the physical body.
During these unprecedented pandemic times, mental health, and managing stress and anxiety are particularly important as we are surrounded with additional risks, restrictions, and pressures, in additional to any of the direct impacts relating to our jobs (or now lack thereof).
Social and Physical Distancing measures are limiting the contact we have with other people - and that in itself can have a significant impact on emotional and mental well being if left unchecked.
We'll be taking a look at ways to nurture and grow your mental health, regardless of your circumstances in the coming weeks. Check back for in-depth conversations around each of these tips:
